Hoi An, which lives up to the approximate translation of its name (“peaceful meeting place”) is located in central Quang Nam Province, near the mouth of the Thu Bon River and not far from the East Vietnam Sea coastal area.

The ancient town is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a SE Asian trading port dating back to the 15th-19th centuries. At the time it was a convenient stopover for international merchants from China, Japan and India, hence its colourful cultural mix of history and architecture.  In 1999, UNESCO recognised it as a World Heritage Site. Travel & Leisure Magazine has ranked the town number seven of the world’s top 15 best cities
